Most people have heard tons about pressure washing and power washing, and how effective these techniques can be at quickly cleaning outdoor surfaces. There’s no question that pressure washing is very useful, but it’s also important to understand that standard high-PSI pressure washing has its limits. That’s right- even with “power washing” in our name, not every job we do involves power washing!
At Pickens Power Washing, we make our customer satisfaction a top priority and always work hard to achieve it. That means treating their properties with care, and opting for safer alternatives when normal pressure washing might be risky. That’s why we also operate using soft washing techniques when it comes to more delicate jobs like house washing, deck cleaning, and fence cleaning.
What Is Soft Washing?
So we’ve all heard of pressure washing, but what is soft washing? Soft washing is essentially like pressure washing, but with the PSI (pounds per square inch, our measurement of force) pulled way back. If many standard pressure washing machines can produce sprays of 3,000 PSI or more, soft washers typically produce under 1,000 PSI (most are closer to the range of 350-500 PSI).
How Does It Work?
Some people worry that soft washing is less effective than pressure washing, as it’s not as “powerful.” But just because the soft washing spray isn’t as reliant on blunt force doesn’t mean that it can’t get the job done!
Instead of relying on ultra-high PSIs, we gently spray down surfaces with detergents, each specially targeted to fit the type of surface we’re cleaning and the kinds of mess we’re attacking. We let these detergents sink in and do their job, and then we rinse the surface clean. It’s still as effective at sanitation and stain removal but without the risks of harming delicate surfaces!
When Do We Use It?
We utilize soft washing techniques anytime we need to clean a surface that could potentially be harmed with high-PSI cleaning. For instance, high-PSI power washing can be great for cleaning driveways or other concrete surfaces, but if we were to use that same level of force on a pine deck or a home’s painted sidings, that could result in a lot of cosmetic and structural damage!
Each job we approach is unique: some will require soft washing, others pressure washing, and some a bit of both. But a few examples of materials we prefer to soft wash rather than pressure washing include:
- Wooden Decks
- Wooden Fences
- Stucco
- Vinyl Siding
- Clapboard Siding
- Brick
- Flagstone
- Paver Patios
And that’s just a few examples. Essentially, we’re careful about tailoring our cleanups and use only the safest and most effective methods for each job!
